Remote Installation
Adding remote entry to your car.
In this guide we'll be covering how to install remote entry into your vehicle.
This guide will assume you are familiar with splicing, tapping and testing wires. Please review our beginner's electrical guide if you are not. It will also assume your vehicle has central locks. Most 3S vehicles do, if you have power lock controls on the doors, then you can perform this install.
For the purposes of this guide I've purchased this remote entry kit. As this kit does not support an alarm or remote start, wiring for those features will not be covered.
This remote unit is used in various Amazon products, so if you find yourself with a unit that appears to be shockingly similar (remotes may be different) with a nearly identical instruction manual, it is likely produced in the same factory and this guide will apply directly.
If you do not have this exact unit, please review the above electrical guide and ensure that your unit supports the following triggers:
- Lock Signal: Ground (Positive Supported by 3S, Not Covered Herein)
- Unlock Signal: Ground (Positive Supported by 3S, Not Covered Herein)
- Lights / Hazards: Positive
- Horn: Ground
As this unit holds the horn for a little longer than I'd like (it sounds a tad aggressive), I opted to use a buzzer instead, which will use a positive trigger. I will cover both in this guide, however.
If your unit uses opposite polarities, you will have to use relay(s) to reverse the triggers. Most units should support both positive and ground triggers for the locks, but the horn and lights may differ.
Testing Your Locks
Before we begin, please test your power locks. It would be very unfortunate to perform this install and have a problem with your wiring which prevents one or both doors from actually locking/unlocking, despite the install being performed successfully.
